4. Avoid stooping
Stooping or slouching can cause back pain, poor circulation and respiratory problems as well as suppressed immunity, vision problems and heart palpitations. Postural changes may alter how deep muscles contract; particularly the multifidus muscle of the spine which has been shown to shrink when you stoop forward. To avoid stooping forward try keeping feet shoulder width apart, using a mirror periodically throughout the day for posture check ups, taking regular movement breaks and signing up for our fortnightly Heart Matters newsletter which features healthy recipes as well as expert advice on keeping your heart healthy!
7. Avoid stooping
Stooping can lead to back and neck pain, breathing issues, vision problems and heart attacks in some people. Furthermore, over time it can reduce the size of multifidus muscle (a deep spinal stabilizer). Therefore it’s essential that we maintain good posture throughout the day by regularly using a mirror and checking our posture using an upright posture mirror; standing up straight without slouching is recommended as is using back or neck supports if slouching occurs; take regular movement breaks as well as exercises which promote postural changes for best results.
